A six-week course of cognitive behavioural therapy for insomnia.

Sessions can be in person, by telephone, or by video consultation.

What does it involve?

One-to-one sessions every week can be carried out in person, by telephone, or by video consultation. Over six weeks, you will be shown how to develop an easy, natural connection between going to bed and falling asleep.

The course follows a core cognitive behavioural therapy framework, but everybody's sleep is different and sessions will be tailored to suit your needs after an initial consultation.

During the first session, a clinical assessment will take place where you can discuss your main concerns with sleep and how you would like your sleep to improve. You will also be asked about your lifestyle and any medical history. There will be no magic cures in your first session but your personal treatment plan based on the information that you will have provided will be discussed and you can ask any questions you may have.

After each weekly session, you will be given supporting reading material and worksheets to help you implement the changes. Email support is available throughout the whole course for any questions you may have in between sessions.

This course contains:

  • Why we sleep and what happens to our bodies when we don't sleep

  • Causes of insomnia and techniques to reduce the impact of any factors contributing to the persistence of your insomnia

  • A sleep schedule to follow to slowly but surely increase the amount of sleep you get

  • How to calm the racing mind and any anxious thoughts you have about sleep

  • Relaxation therapy, including meditation videos and progressive muscle relaxation

  • What to do if you can't sleep

  • How to put it all together to feel the benefits long term
